Add all the ingredients into a big bowl and mix everything well with a whisk, until the batter is smooth and there are no lumps of flour.
Heat up the waffle maker and pour portions of batter. Bake until they are dark golden.
If you are not serving your waffles straight away, you may want to keep the ready ones one the rack in a warmed-up oven (60C fan), adding new servings until you are done with the batter.

Fresh fruit, whipped cream, chocolate sauce or powdered sugar go great with the sweet version.The neutral/savoury version of waffles is delicious with cottage cheese and smoked salmon, with bacon and fried egg, with mayonnaise, hard-boiled egg and chives, or as an alternative to bread in a sandwich.
